Won the Southern Conference regular season and tournament championships under Coach Bill Blair, posting a 22-10 overall mark and 9-3 ledger in SoCon play … Advanced to the NCAA Regional finals (Elite Eight) … Closed the regular season with five consecutive wins, with four of those coming against conference foes … Defeated Davidson (71-69), Appalachian State (71-64), and Richmond (41-33) to claim the SoCon Tournament at Greenville Memorial Auditorium … Posted an 81-75 win over Tennessee in the NCAA Tournament first round at the Charlotte Coliseum, and ran its win streak to 10 games with a 71-66 victory over DePaul in the Sweet Sixteen, which was played at the Greensboro Coliseum … Built on that excellent season with a 26-4 record, another SoCon title and a No. 20 national ranking the following season (1976-77) … Advanced to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen for the second season in a row, defeating Duquesne (73-66) in Raleigh … SoCon Hall of Famer Ron Carter was a star on both teams.
